Interestingly enough, some ketchups and a number of other condiments have been tested and verified low FODMAP at moderate serves – even though they contain traditionally high FODMAP ingredients like onion and garlic.
It’s worth noting that the low FODMAP diet is a bit more complex than traditional eat-this-not-that programs, because it introduces an additional variable – serving size. While garlic and onion are high FODMAP at most serving sizes, some ketchups contain even smaller amounts of these two ingredients, making them safe to consume.
You may notice that some ketchups are still colored red in the Spoonful app. This may be because they contain other additives like high fructose corn syrup or that particular product has not been tested by Monash or confirmed low FODMAP by a Spoonful dietitian.
